MATLAB is a programming and numerical-computing environment. Scientists and engineers use it to analyse data, develop models, and create visualisations. Specialised tasks may require additional toolboxes.

For a vibration experiment, keep the original measurements unchanged. Write a script that imports the data, checks units, applies justified processing, and produces the final figure.

Record software versions, toolbox requirements, and important settings. Explain any removed observations. Use clear variable names and comments so another student can follow the work.

Check calculations with a small example whose answer you already know. A graph can look convincing even when the units or indexing are wrong.

Remember: MATLAB does not choose the scientific question or validate your assumptions. Python or R may also suit the task; choose according to your project, training, and available support.

Your graph changes when you rerun a simulation. What should you check?

Check random-number settings, input files, software versions, and whether the script depends on variables left from earlier work.
